How does the Alien RDWC System work?
In an RDWC system, the plant sits in a net pot and its roots hang down into the pot below. Inside these pots, nutrient rich water flows constantly around the system, between each pot and back to the header pot again. Each plant receives the same amount of nutrition as the rest, standardizing the grow. In the bottom of each pot, an air injection system pushes air through the water, dissolving large amounts of oxygen in it. It is this super oxygenation with the constant flow of nutrients that supercharges the plants.
Plants growing in an RDWC require very little by way of media – just enough for the small net pot. This serves to stabilize the plant while the roots are growing downward. Ridges on the net pot help prevent the media you use becoming water logged, reducing the risk of root rot and damping off. As there is no media in the main pot, the roots grow completely unimpeded and can therefore reach incredible sizes. All you really need to do is maintain the EC and pH of the water/ nutrient mix and you’re good to go.
